One of the most iconic scenes in Formula 1 history has been portrayed through art by Paul Oz. This incredible moment, shared between two F1® icons, took place in 1991 at the end of the British Grand Prix. Mansell had claimed pole position and lead the race from start to finish, meanwhile Senna had a podium near enough guaranteed. It wasn’t until the final lap that things unravelled for Senna. With only one lap to go, Senna’s McLaren ran out of fuel, leaving his car to stop. 

After crossing the finish line with victory and enjoying his cool down lap, Mansell slowed his car down to ‘pick up’ Senna. Despite stewards trying to stop them for safety reasons, the two champions were allowed to continue, in what was one of the most touching moments in F1.
